Torrey
Pines is long recognized as one of the nation’s premier
municipal golf facilities.It is a “golfer’s paradise”, bounded by
mountains to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the west.
The
Torrey Pines Tree is indigenous to this area and to Santa
Rosa Island and is distinguished by having clusters of
five pine needles.Torrey
Pines is a municipal course with very reasonable course
fees.
Black's
Beach - a two mile long, sandy strip situated at the base
of majestic cliffs up to 300 feet high. Formally
known as Torrey Pines City Beach and Torrey Pines State
Beach it is jointly owned by the City of San Diego and the
State of California.
Access
to Black's Beach is very difficult due to the high cliffs
and lack of improved stairways.
There is a
glider port atop the cliff overlooking the beach where
Hangliders, paragliders and remote controlled gliders can
often be seen soaring.
La Jolla Country Club, a
private course designed by William Bell in 1928, this hilly,
18 hole private course features many trees and bunkers.
Golfers
will face narrow fairways and putting greens that feature
bermuda turf.
